An eight-storey apartment building proposed in Owen Sound’s east side is moving ahead.
City council approved a zoning by-law amendment and authorized staff to execute a conditional building permit during its meeting Monday, for a residential development proposed by Andpet Realty at 1201 15th Avenue East.
A staff report says the eight-storey building — known as East Court Residences — would include 128 rental units, mostly one- and two-bedroom. Ten per cent of the units would meet Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s definition of affordable.
Site plan approval is still required for the development, which would also include above- and underground parking, and possibly outdoor pickeball courts and indoor woodworking space.
Owen Sound’s Director of Community Services Pam Coulter says the 15th Avenue East property is within 500 metres of an existing public transit stop, and in close proximity to the hospital, and many amenities such as retail stores and restaurants.
