Grey County is keeping transit going as a study nears completion.
On Thursday, Council received a report on the Bruce-Dufferin-Grey-Wellington Regional Transit Study.
The County says, “the four counties, along with Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit (SMART) are working together on a project to explore options for creating a unified regional transit network.”
A staff report recommended more time be given to the current study phase to support the creation of a request for information about technology and operator interest.
Council has agreed to extend the current GOST service between Owen Sound and Guelph and the GTR service between Dundalk and Orangeville as the transit study project continues.
Council also supported a recommendation to reinstate former GTR scheduled service between Owen Sound and Wiarton.
A staff report says, “As a pre-approval phase, continuing the service ensures riders are not left without access while long-term solutions are being considered and helps avoid a loss of ridership. It also provides Bruce County with temporary service on a previously popular route, including coverage during peak season, until recommendations for a permanent solution are developed.”
