There are household hazardous waste drop-off events in Bruce and Grey counties this weekend.
The City of Owen Sound is hosting a household hazardous waste event on Saturday, July 11, at the Public Works Facility on 20th Street East from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Anyone planning to attend must complete a household hazardous waste form and present a valid ID from Owen Sound, the Township of Chatsworth, the Township of Georgian Bluffs, the Municipality of Grey Highlands, or the Municipality of Meaford.
Hazardous waste from commercial, industrial or farm operations will not be accepted.
Other materials not accepted include infectious waste (such as syringes; for information about sharps and syringe disposal, please visit the Grey Bruce Public Health website); radioactive waste; explosives (ammunition, flares, gunpowder); unidentified waste (unlabeled items); and improperly contained waste (compromised containers, missing lids, leaking materials).
Anyone bringing batteries should tape the ends or place all rechargeable and nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries in individual bags. Those unsure of the battery type should tape or bag it to be safe.
Meanwhile in Bruce County, a household hazardous waste collection event is also scheduled on July 11 at the Kincardine Public Works Yard from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
