Owen Sound Police say a man faces numerous charges after being arrested twice in less than 24 hours.
City Police say they received a complaint on Sunday “of a motor vehicle having been stolen by a family member who had been drinking to the point of intoxication.”
“Police located the vehicle within the city and when they attempted to perform a traffic stop the driver fled at a high rate of speed while disobeying traffic signals, posing a significant danger to himself and others on the street,” Owen Sound Police say in a release.”Police did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety.”
Owen Sound Police say the man was later seen on video stealing alcohol from a local store.
“He was located near his residence where he was arrested after a foot pursuit and held for bail,” police say.
Shortly after being released, the accused was arrested once again.
Owen Sound Police say they received another call from the same store sometime overnight, and video showed the same male committing another theft.
“He was located a short distance away and arrested again, less than 24 hours after his first arrest,” police say.
The male accused, who was not identified by police, was charged with nine criminal offences including theft of a motor vehicle, impaired operation and assaulting a police officer with intent to resist arrest.
