No injuries to residents were reported in a fire at a seniors’ apartment building in Tobermory.
Northern Bruce Peninsula firefighters responded to the incident at Bradley H Davis Senior Apartments in Tobermory late Tuesday evening. Firefighters from the Wiarton, Inter-Township and Arran-Elderslie fire departments also supported the response.
Residents in all 12 apartment units had to be evacuated.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and most of the fire damage was contained to one unit.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Residents remain displaced due to smoke damage inside the Bruce County Housing Corporation operated building.
A news release from Bruce County says all residents have been provided with temporary accommodation in the Tobermory area.
“And the county’s human services team is continuing to work directly with tenants to address immediate needs and next steps,” a release from the county explains. “The site remains under the control of emergency officials. Residents are asked to avoid the area to allow crews to continue their work safely.”
“The building has been secured,” the statement from the county continues. “And Bruce County’s housing facilities team will begin a detailed assessment to determine the extent of damage and the work required for restoration.”
