Saugeen Shores police have laid an impaired driving charge after a vehicle hit a fire hydrant.
They say on June 22nd, at about 5:30 p.m. they took a call about a vehicle that had struck a fire hydrant on Saugeen Beach Road, and it was causing severe flooding to several cottages in the area.
Witnesses reported a male driver had taken off from the scene in his vehicle.
Police say, a licence plate was obtained from witnesses and a registered owner was identified. Officers attended the address of the registered owner to locate the driver. While at the address the vehicle was seen driving towards the, but police allege when the driver saw them, he began to accelerate away.
Police were able to initiate a traffic stop and as a result, a 29-year-old Waterloo man has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, fail to remain, operation while impaired, operation while impaired over 80, driving while prohibited and failing to comply with a release order.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing and remanded into custody with a future court date.
