The Artisans and Tastes weekly outdoor market next to the Southampton Coliseum is back this week.
With more than 50 vendors, the market offers everything from fresh produce, hot foods and flowers to handmade art, woodworking, gifts and garden creations. New additions this season include specialty garlic and succulents, along with a children’s birdhouse-building workshop while supplies last, using kits assembled by volunteer woodworkers for young families.
“It’s grown into a social place where family and friends reconnect in an unhurried way,” says Deb Kaufman, one of the market organizers. “People discover something new, chat with growers, artists and craft makers, and enjoy a down-to-earth experience.”
The market also hosts non-profit organizations to share information and upcoming events. This season includes the Southampton Arts Centre, Bruce County Playhouse, Pumpkinfest, Huron Shores Hospice, Bruce Wildlife Help, the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, and the Marine Heritage Society, among others.
The Friday event includes the next-door art gallery, High Street shops and cafes, and Lake Huron views, including Chantry Island, all within one easy stroll. Admission to the market is free, and cyclists have complimentary bike valet service courtesy of the Town of Saugeen Shores.
The market runs to the end of August and is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
