Mary Lou Pfeffer received the Senior of the Year award from West Grey council this week.
Mayor Kevin Eccles presented Pfeffer with two awards – the first from the province and the second from the municipality.
Pfeffer was teary-eyed as Eccles spoke about her work in the community after retiring as a teacher.
Eccles listed her involvement with the Busy Bees and the Ayton Homecoming, playfully asking if there is anything in the Ayton area she isn’t involved in.
“An award that is truly deserved,” Eccles says. “Thank you for everything that you give to our communities.”
As Pfeffer accepted the awards, she spoke about how she was on her way to Ayton to help put up ribbons and bridge-baskets for the upcoming homecoming.
