Meaford council has approved entering formal discussions and negotiations with the Ontario Provincial Police for the potential development of a new OPP detachment.
Authorized representatives of Grey Bruce OPP contacted municipal staff to ask if the Municipality of Meaford would consider collaborating on a new facility.
A property off Highway 26 that was recently purchased by the municipality is being considered for the potential new detachment.
The report projects the cost would be approximately $20 million, as the OPP looks to add more strategic coverage around Grey and Bruce counties.
Coun. Tony Bell clarified during the discussion that council has not agreed to anything yet, noting that they are just going to talk with the OPP about their requirements before the municipality reviews the proposal.
