Meaford council signed off on the purchase of land on Edwin Street for $600,000.
Councillors made the decision at their meeting on Monday.
A staff report to council says this land purchase is to consider an opportunity for the municipality to plan for the long-term needs of community and to allow for enhanced positioning of facilities and improved working conditions for staff.
Councillor Harley Greenfield says it is an ideal site with the growth happening on St. Vincent Street and the surrounding area.
In addition, through the 2026 budget process council approved the winter grooming of the Georgian Trail. This property provides direct access to the Georgian Trail that will allow for equipment and staff to effectively and efficiently begin and end shifts with a significant reduction in travel time.
The proximity of this property to the other municipal owned parks is seen as an added asset.
Another approximately $130,000 would be used to make the property usable by municipal operations like adding perimeter fence, fuel containment, and operation tools and equipment.
Meaford’s Director of Community Services Bradey Carbert says moving into this property is a priority even without some of the renovations done to the space like the fencing and office equipment as their current operations building is missing some features.
