Major Mary Millar receiving her bench plaque from South Bruce Peninsula Councillor Kathy Durst
A room full of more than 100 people came together yesterday to honour someone special in Wiarton.
Major Mary Millar has retired after more than 30 years of service with the Salvation Army in Wiarton.
The South Bruce Peninsula council will honour her by placing a park bench with a plaque at Bluewater Park in Wiarton.
South Bruce Peninsula Coun. Kathy Durst presented the plaque to Millar.
“With our intent, that by enjoying a moment of peace and reflection,” Durst said, “you will be reminded that no act of kindness is too small for those who are struggling.”
Wiarton Rotary development manager Mike Schwindt says it was an honour to have worked with Millar both through the Rotary Club and personally.
Chief Veronica Smith of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation gave Millar a gift from Neyaashiinigmiing.
“We want to show our love and appreciation to Mary for all the work that she’s done up at Neyaashiinigmiing,” Chief Smith says. “Helping our people in our most trying times, doing so much good in our community with our food bank, helping our band members when they have needed it the most.”
