A few Grey County residents are among seven people arrested in a property crime investigation.
On May Saturday 30th, Dufferin OPP executed a search warrant at a residence on 6th Line NE in the Township of Melancthon as part of an ongoing property crime investigation.
OPP say this spring, they received numerous reports of thefts from rural properties throughout northern Dufferin County and southern Grey County.
They say the incidents involved a variety of high-value property, including machinery, equipment trailers, farm implements, power tools, and other items.
During their search of the property, officers recovered a significant quantity of property believed to be connected to the reported thefts.
Seven people were located at the residence and arrested.
Investigators also discovered that some of the suspected stolen property was in the process of being dismantled and prepared for scrap metal.
A 34 year old man from Maxwell,, A 52 year old woman from Dundalk, a 49 year old woman from Durham, a 67 year old woman from Melancthon, a 56 year old man from Cambridge, a 61-year-old man from New Hamburg, a 61-year-old man from Melancthon, has been charged with the following offences:
They each face the same charges: five counts each of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and a charge of interfering with the lawful use enjoyment or operation of property-over $5000
OPP say they seized a galvanized vehicle hauler/trailer (valued at approximately $10,000), a zero-turn lawn mower (valued at approximately $7,500), two custom farm trailers (valued at about each and a large quantity of Milwaukee and DeWalt power tools (valued at approximately $5,000).
OPP say their investigation remains ongoing, and investigators believe more people may be involved. They’re asking anyone with information related to this investigation to contact the Dufferin OPP and reference incident number RM26146264.
