The Owen Sound North Stars Legacy Ridge Golf Club Junior Elite Women’s League (JEWL) lacrosse team capped off a strong stretch of play with a 16-11 road win over previously undefeated Kawartha on Tuesday. The victory marks Owen Sound’s third straight, following weekend home wins over Halton Hills and Toronto.
Kawartha opened the scoring, but the North Stars responded with authority, striking for five unanswered goals and taking a 6-2 lead after the first quarter. London Doyle powered the early surge with a hat trick, while Bree Wilkins, Camryn Laycock, and Avery Seaman each added singles. Dominant draw‑circle work from Leah Cooper allowed Owen Sound to control possession and dictate the pace throughout the opening frame.
The teams traded momentum in the second quarter. Owen Sound scored three times in the first seven minutes before Kawartha answered with three of their own in the final eight, as the North Stars maintained their four-goal advantage at halftime. Doyle added another tally, and Ella Todd scored twice in the quarter.
The third quarter mirrored the first, with Owen Sound once again taking command. Strong draw wins and extended possessions translated into a 6-2 scoring edge, stretching the lead to 15-7. Doyle continued her standout performance with four more goals, while Laycock and Camryn Stauffer added singles.
Kawartha pushed back in the final 15 minutes, outscoring Owen Sound 4-1, but the deficit proved too large. Megan Nissen scored the lone North Stars goal of the quarter as Owen Sound closed out the 16-11 win.
With the victory, the North Stars improve to 4-1, maintaining top spot in the JEWL standings. The team also boasts the league’s top two scorers: London Doyle (20 goals, 3 assists) and Bree Wilkins (16 goals, 7 assists), who are currently tied for the league lead.
Owen Sound returns to action Friday night in Halton Hills, where they will face Orillia in Game 1 of the JEWL in-season tournament.
