Owen Sound Police have arrested and charged a man after a stabbing in the city’s downtown.
Police say they responded to reports of an assault with a weapon in progress in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East around 3:15 p.m. Monday afternoon. Witnesses tell Bayshore Broadcasting News emergency services were in an area near the Tim Hortons restaurant.
Owen Sound Police say officers arrived and located the suspect, who was being detained by witnesses at the scene.
“The man was arrested by police without incident and the knife used in the offence was seized,” Owen Sound Police say in a release.
City Police say a female victim suffering from apparent stab and slash wounds was located nearby. She was treated by Grey County paramedics, and subsequently transported to the Owen Sound Hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening.
“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” Owen Sound Police say.
Police say they charged Devon Desborough, 22, of Owen Sound with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
The accused was previously released by the courts on bail on other serious charges. Desborough is the alleged driver in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Owen Sound in May 2025, when he was charged with dangerous operation causing death and fail to stop at an accident causing death.
