Students from six Bluewater District School Board secondary schools recently demonstrated their skills in debating, diplomacy, negotiation, and responsible global citizenship at the Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly (SOMA).
The 53rd annual conference held in Toronto brings students together for an international relations simulation event.
SOMA is the oldest secondary school-run Model UN conference, and the largest in Canada.
The participating schools were Georgian Bay Community School, Kincardine District Senior School, Owen Sound District Secondary School, Saugeen District Senior School, Grey Highlands Secondary School, and John Diefenbaker Senior School.
The goal of SOMA is for students to learn about global issues and work together to devise peaceful and productive solutions to complex problems.
Bluewater District School Board had five of the groups receive awards.
