Nearly two weeks after nominations for the 2026 Ontario Municipal Election opened, four local governments in Huron County are still without nominees.
As of publication, Huron East, the Municipality of Bluewater, Howick Township, and Morris-Turnberry have not received nominations from candidates vying for a position in local government.
Meantime, South Huron leads the way for nominations.
Three candidates have applied for the Mayor’s job, while another three are seeking to represent South Huron’s Ward 1, and a pair of candidates are nominated for Ward 2.
The Town of Goderich also has a race for Mayor, with a pair of candidates, along with a single candidate for Deputy Mayor.
A single candidate has applied for the Mayor’s job in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, with another for councillor.
Single candidates have also applied for positions in Central Huron (West Ward), and North Huron (AMDSB School Board Trustee).
The Municipal Election runs October 26th, with the nomination deadline closing August 21st, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
