Clearview residents opposed to a planned Arctic over-the horizon radar installation have had petitions criticizing National Defence rejected by Ottawa.
The federal government purchased land in Clearview for a receiver site and acreage for a transmitter in Kawartha Lakes, and he locations can’t be changed.
The Clearview property is in the area of the 15/16 Sideroad.
The government says the project has complex and inflexible requirements for things like latitude and the distance between installations and no other site proposals were suitable.
Ottawa says the long-range radar will make detecting threats in Arctic airspace faster and easier.
