Huron County is making changes to how it shifts focus on fleet vehicle investments.
Under the Buy Ontario Act, the county is now required to give preference to Ontario-made goods and services first, followed by Canadian-made goods and services.
Effective April 13, 2026, fleet vehicles will now be purchased with a focus on vehicles made in Ontario.
According to county Treasurer Michael Blumhagen, purchasing fleet vehicles would prioritize those made in Ontario, listed as Tier 1, followed by those made in Canada, which are considered Tier 2, while also being mindful of budget constraints.
Tier 1 includes vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4, Chrysler Pacifica and Charger, some Chevrolet Silverado models, Honda CRV and Civic, and the Lexus RX and NX.
Tier 2 vehicles include some Ford, GM, Honda, Stellantis, Toyota and Volkswagen models.
Capital infrastructure will shift to an Ontario-first focus as of May 15th.
