Grey County’s buying a few new ambulances.
A staff recommendation will come before Grey County councillors at Thursday’s meeting to approve a $743,000 contract for three new ambulances.
A report by Grey County’s Director of Paramedic Services Kevin McNab says TriStar Ambulances of Nova Scotia will supply the vehicles. It was the successful bidder among three submissions to the county’s call for the replacement of three ambulances.
Each new ambulance will cost $247,716.
The county has a fleet of 19 ambulances and McNab’s report says they are replaced on a six-year cycle, typically when the vehicles have exceeded 275,000 kilometres.
“In recent years, delivery delays from manufacturers have resulted in ambulances remaining in service longer than planned, leader to higher mileage and higher fleet maintenance and repair costs,” McNab says in his report to county council. “Looking to 2026 and beyond, ambulance delivery timelines are expected to improve.”
County council still needs to formally approve the recommendation for the vehicle purchase to move forward.
Grey County has allocated $10.9-million for ambulance replacement over the next decade in its 2026-2035 capital spending plan.
