The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund is celebrating a major milestone with the installation of its 250th automated external defibrillator, or AED.
The life-saving device was placed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 180 yesterday (April 22) in memory of Corporal Matthew Dinning, who was killed in Afghanistan in the line of duty on April 22, 2006.
The fund was co-founded by retired OPP officer Patrick Armstrong in honour of his friend and fellow officer Dave Mounsey, who died after a line-of-duty crash in 2006.
Armstrong says Mounsey and his partner Brenda had originally hoped to raise money for a defibrillator donation themselves, but never had the chance to see it happen. Friends later continued that effort by launching the memorial fund.
Since 2009, the organization has donated AEDs across Ontario and beyond, with Armstrong saying the devices have already helped save seven lives.
The organization is hosting it’s next big fundraising event on Sunday May 10th, a run around the beach in Goderich. The deadline to enter for the run is on May 2nd.
