Hanover Police say they arrested a Stratford man after responding to theft and weapons calls.
Police in the southern Grey County town say they responded to a report of a theft at a convenience store on 10th Street just prior to 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Hanover Police say a male suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Then later in the day, Hanover Police officers attended Hanover Park on 7th Avenue for reports of a “male behaving erratically, shouting and stabbing a table.”
“Officers attended within minutes, contained the suspect and took him into custody without further incident,” Hanover Police say in a release.
Police allege the suspect was determined to be responsible for the earlier convenience store theft.
The 24-year-old Stratford man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime and mulitple counts of failure to comply with a probation order.
The accused was held in custody and then released with conditions to attend Walkerton Court to answer to the charges.
“The Hanover Police Service would like to thank those who called the police for the incident at the Hanover Park before it escalated further,” Hanover Police say in a release.
