Huron County council approved a renewal for the county’s 911 answering service.
The previous contract ended in March, and over the past few weeks has been under negotiations with Northern911.
The county has had multiple contracts with Northern911 to provide the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) since March 2010, with only one other proponent responding during that time, and those have been either the OPP or Owen Sound Police Services at substantially higher rates.
In the report submitted to council, it says that options are limited for PSAP providers in Ontario.
The monthly service agreement with Northern911 costs Huron County $2,635.46 per month, which is covered in the county’s budget.
