Families in Kincardine may soon have access to expanded child care options, as the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce plans to introduce a new licensed school-age program at Huron Heights Public School.
The proposed program, targeted to launch in September 2026, would offer before and after school care for up to 15 students enrolled at the school. The initiative comes in response to growing demand for accessible and reliable child care in the area.
YMCA officials say the program is designed to support working families while providing children with a safe, welcoming environment that encourages social development, active play, and learning beyond the classroom.
The YMCA is partnering with the Bluewater District School Board to bring the program to the school. Education officials say the collaboration will help strengthen support for families while contributing to a positive school community.
The launch of the program is contingent on meeting staffing requirements, and the YMCA is currently recruiting qualified educators.
Families interested in registering are encouraged to express interest through OneList Bruce County beginning April 8.
More information about YMCA school-age programming is available through the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce website.
