There’s an event coming up to help get young women into the skilled trades.
The Nuclear Innovation Institute has announced the second Build to Lead event. It’s free to attend and the goal of this event is to get girls in Grades 7-12 introduced and interested in career pathways for the skilled trades.
Last fall, the event drew more than 350 students who get to experience cutting sheet metal, changing tires, and styling hair for the first time, while getting to meet potential mentors and others in the skilled trades.
This event is held in partnership with the Bluewater District School Board and the Bruce-Grey Catholic School Board. The event this year will have 25 exhibitors showcasing careers in welding, pipefitting, carpentry, electric and more.
This year’s event will be packed with hands-on demonstrations, meeting one-on-one with local tradeswomen, and local training and apprenticeship opportunities for young women.
The details for the event are:
- Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Grey County Sydenham Campus, 1130 8th St. E, Owen Sound (beside Georgian College; free parking available in the college’s lot)
- Open house from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., refreshments provided
