Saugeen Shores is partnering with the Saugeen First Nation on a five-year, two part community tourism strategy.
Part one of the strategy is to turn Saugeen Shores into a year round destination, to draw more people in during the winter months when tourist season is at its lowest.
Part two of the project is about a joint water focus strategy. A joint water focus strategy is a partnered objective to manage water, as a shared and sustainable resource. The importance of the joint water focus strategy is cultural education and environment stewardship. This includes a plan to support the development of a beach stewardship program.
The objectives of this project are to align research with work already underway, to meaningfully engage and encourage connections amongst diverse interest groups, to co-create an inspiring vision for tourism with clear, to foster a shared destination identity through meaningful experiences and storytelling, to build internal capacity to bring the tourism strategy to life through ongoing involvement in strategy decision-making and direction.
There will be a chance for local residents to share their opinions on April 9th. From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Saugeen First Nation Council Chambers, as well as from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Port Elgin Public Library.
The town hopes to have the strategy completed by late spring or early summer of this year.
