A 31-year-old from Arran-Elderslie is facing multiple charges following an incident in Kincardine Township where a police cruiser was nearly struck.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, officers were responding to a report of downed wires on Highway 21 around 11:00 p.m. on March 15 when a vehicle nearly collided with a marked cruiser that had its emergency lights activated while blocking traffic.
Police conducted a traffic stop and say the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
A 31 year old Arran-Elderslie man has been charged with impaired operation, impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, and dangerous operation under the Criminal Code. He also faces a charge under the Cannabis Control Act for having cannabis readily available in a vehicle.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on April 29.
Police say the vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days.
