Two elderly Barrie citizens were defrauded of cash in what police are calling a courier scam.
Barrie police say the victims received a phone call from an individual posing as a bank security employee claiming their credit cards had been compromised. The caller then told the victims to leave their cred cards in an envelope for a courier to pick up.
The cards were picked up and the victim’s bank confirmed fraudulent transactions shortly thereafter.
The suspect is described as: a black male, 20-30 years of age, about 6′ tall with a slim build and he was wearing an orange reflective vest. He is believed to be driving a small, light grey vehicle.
Officers believe there may be additional victims who have not come forward, and are urging family and friends of seniors to talk to them about scammers.
Anyone with information related to this incident, or who believes they may have been targeted by a similar scam, is asked to contact the Barrie Police Service
