Masen Wray sparked a three-goal second period for the Owen Sound Attack, which went on to beat the Guelph Storm 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community.
Wray skated up the left wing, settled a rolling puck, and then put a perfect shot short-side over the shoulder of Zach Jovanovski to put the Attack ahead 1-0 just over seven minutes into the second.
Nick Sykora and Caden Taylor would add goals before the period was up, giving Owen Sound a 3-o lead after two.
Jake Crawford also scored for the Attack (25-31-4-5), which pulled even with the Storm (27-32-2-3) at 59 points for sixth in the OHL’s Western Conference. Guelph has a game in hand and holds the regulation or overtime win tiebreaker over Owen Sound.
Leo Serlin had the lone goal for Guelph, which dropped its third straight game. The Storm were without Tyler Hopkins, Noah Jenken and Ryan Singh due to injury. Defenceman Quinn Beauchesne was also out, as he is suspended pending league review of an incident Friday night in Guelph’s game against London.
Matthew Korprowski made 29 saves in the win, while Jovanovski stopped 21 taking the loss. Guelph outshot Owen Sound 30-25 while going 0 for 5 on the power play; the Attack were 1 for 4.
Next up for the Attack is a home game Wednesday against the West Division leading Flint Firebirds. There’s two to go after that, Friday in Guelph (March 20), and then back to the Bayshore next Saturday, March 21 to close out the season against the Kitchener Rangers.
