Grey County is looking at ways it can take advantage of funding from the new Build Canada Homes federal agency.
The agency, created by Mark Carney’s federal Liberal government aims to build and finance affordable housing at scale.
County staff say Grey is proposing to be the lead in organizing and applying for funding for multiple projects.
A staff report from Deputy CAO Niall Lobley to the County’s Committee of the Whole Thursday says, “Grey County and non-profit housing providers currently have projects waiting for funding in various stages of readiness.”
The report adds, “Staff will work with non-profits to identify projects that are viable, ready to be funded and close to shovel ready and propose a five-year plan. A report will be brought back in the spring to outline possible housing projects to be submitted to BCH (Build Canada Homes) for consideration.”
