Hanover police have arrested and charged a man in relation to a stabbing investigation.
Police Chief Chris Knoll says at 5:30 Monday morning, they arrested a 55-year-old Durham man on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon and having a dangerous weapon.
Police say back on February 25th, a stabbing occurred in Hanover.
A 25-year-old man had minor injuries and a 35-year-old man of no fixed address had non life-threatening injures after being stabbed several times in his face and upper body.
Police say it happened after the men got into the vehicle driven by the accused and a dispute occurred.
Hanover Police investigators executed warrants, completed scene examinations, interviewed witnesses and reviewed video footage that included footage obtained from registrants on Camsafe.ca.
The suspect vehicle, a 2017 black Ford Explorer with a white roof, was examined by members of the Ontario Provincial Police Identification Unit in Mount Forest and police investigators are collaborating with scientists at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto related to DNA evidence that was secured.
Chief Knoll says in a statement, “The Hanover Police Service wants to thank our community for their assistance on this investigation, especially those who have taken time to register their residential, commercial and business cameras on Camsafe.ca. This registry has proven invaluable to our investigative teams, that has saved precious time and resources especially during early stages of investigations, while helping police investigators quickly secure important video footage.”
The accused was held for a bail hearing and later released with conditions.
