Bruce County council is moving closer to achieving a new official plan after further changes were made to existing policies.
During Thursday’s (March 5) county council meeting, discussions were held on making minor updates to policies, in order to create an updated plan that would serve the county for the next several years.
Council voted on small changes regarding additional residential dwelling units.
They also clarified differences between agricultural and rural land designations.
The council is working steadily with staff to come up with a comprehensive official plan for Bruce County that combines the Province’s land use guidelines with policies that will best serve county residents.
The purpose of the Bruce County Official Plan is to establish a policy framework to guide the physical, social and economic development of the County while still protecting the natural environment.
The new OP will strive to strike a balance with the intent to:
– Achieve an orderly pattern of settlement
– Protect and conserve good agricultural land
– Protect, and when possible, enhance the quality of the natural environment
– Encourage economic development
– Encourage necessary social, cultural, and educational facilities and services
