That’s the kind of weekend the Attack were hoping for.
Harry Nansi scored a key insurance goal on a penalty shot late in the third period, and Noah Roberts would add one more as the Owen Sound Attack downed the Erie Otters 5-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday afternoon at Erie Insurance Arena.
Masen Wray, Wesley Royston and Lenny Greenberg also scored for the Attack (23-29-3-5), which extended their point streak to five-games.
The Attack picked up all four points in the weekend pair in Erie after winning 5-4 in shootout Saturday, and also secured back to back wins for the first time since Nov. 30-Dec. 5.
Michael Dec had the lone goal for the Otters (17-35-3-4), which lost their sixth in a row.
Wray and Royston scored 19 seconds apart around five minutes into the first period to stake the Attack to a 2-0 lead.
It was 3-1 after two. And it stayed that way until late in the third, when Nansi was hauled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot with 2:24 remaining.
He converted, pulling a deke near the goal and backhanding the puck past Noah Tegelaar to make it 4-1 Attack. The goal also extended Nansi’s point streak to 11-games.
Roberts would add another with 1:11 remaining, getting a point shot past Tegelaar that deflected off an Otters’ defender on its way through.
Jake Crawford dropped the gloves for a second straight game, fighting Kase Kamzik in this one after getting into it with Ritter Coombs on Saturday.
Trenten Bennett made 20 saves in the win, while Tegelaar stopped 21 taking the loss. Owen Sound outshot Erie 26-21 while going 1 for 3 on the power play; the Otters finished 1 for 4.
Next up for the Attack is a trip to Guelph on Friday to face the Storm (26-27-2-3).
