As the temperatures warm weight-restrictions are returning to area roads.
Both The City of Owen Sound and Township of Georgian Bluffs say that starting Sunday, March 1st, a five-tonne per axle limit will be in place on all roads to protect them during the spring thaw.
As temperatures rise above zero and spring rains begin, road bases soften due to excess moisture, making them more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles.
Officials say enforcing temporary weight limits helps prevent costly repairs and extends the life of local roadways.
The restrictions are scheduled to remain in effect until May 1st, but could be extended to May 31st depending on weather conditions.
Staff will monitor road conditions closely and lift the limits once it’s safe to do so.
