With daytime temperatures starting to increase, and the snow beginning to melt, the City of Owen Sound is ready to combat potholes.
Due to temperature fluctuations, water from melted snow gets into the road surfaces.
When temperatures drop overnight, it causes the asphalt to contract, while the water within freezes.
Add the weight of vehicles passing over those surfaces, you end up with the pavement breaking up and leading to potholes.
The city has an online form for residents to report potholes. All you have to do is include the area, or nearest address, so crews are able to carry out repairs when possible.
Temporary repairs are completed using cold mix asphalt, and more permanent repairs are completed with hot asphalt, typically in the spring and summer.
