The Municipality of Brockton has announced the retirement of Walkerton Fire Department Deputy Chief Glen Wilhelm, effective July 1, 2026, marking the conclusion of an extraordinary career in public service.
Wilhelm has served the community for more than five decades and was formally recognized in 2025 for 50 years of dedicated service.
His career was honoured with a Provincial Service Ribbon and service bar, recognizing his long-standing commitment to fire and emergency services.
Following his retirement, Wilhelm will continue to support the department in an honorary role as Deputy Chief Emeritus. In this capacity, he will provide guidance and mentorship during the transition to new leadership.
As part of the change, Brockton Council has approved the restructuring of the Deputy Chief position and will begin recruitment for a full-time Deputy Chief and Fire Prevention Officer.
Wilhelm will play an advisory role in onboarding the successful candidate to ensure continuity and knowledge-sharing.
Brockton Mayor Peabody says ” “Deputy Chief Wilhelm has been a pillar of our fire service and a trusted leader in our community for half a century. His dedication, professionalism, and willingness to put others first have made Brockton a safer and stronger place. We are deeply grateful for his service and are honoured that he will continue to share his expertise as Deputy Chief Emeritus.”
Wilhelm will mark 52 years of service at the end of 2026.
