Over $9.5 million in provincial funding is coming to the region to build, expand and rehabilitate local water infrastructure.
The funding from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program is being spread out among three communities.
Arran-Elderslie received over $1.8 million to support the reconstruction of Elgin Avenue and Matilda Street.
Mayor Steve Hammell says, “We’re really pleased to see this investment move forward. Strengthening our water infrastructure is one of those essential projects that residents don’t always see day-to-day, but it makes a big difference for the future of our community.”
While over $1.7 million went to the Town of Hanover to replace a couple of wells.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula also got over $5.9 million for Wiarton wastewater diversion and a new pumping station.
MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Paul Vickers says, “One of our priorities of the province is to get more housing built and these kinds of infrastructure grants go a long way helping small and rural municipalities be able to afford, to update and increase capacity on their water and waste water sites.”
