A fundraiser for Owen Sound musician Coco Love Alcorn has surpassed its goal.
Alcorn was recently diagnosed with what is described as an ‘aggressive’ form of cancer.
Go Fund Me creator Emily Stupple explains, a surgery in December didn’t remove all of the cancer, and Alcorn is now being cared for by specialists in London with two types of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. The fundraising page says she’ll have four rounds of that and then another surgery, followed by eight months of immunotherapy.
The Go Fund Me page says, “As an independent musician, she doesn’t have access to benefits like employment insurance or sick leave. With her treatment schedule, she’s had to cancel every concert, every tour, and even postpone the recording of her new album. She also had to pause her local choir until further notice. This means she’s facing at least a year ahead with almost no income – while focusing all her strength on healing.”
$189,399 in donations have surpassed the $140,000 goal.
The page says the money go towards Alcorn’s living expenses, medical costs, travel between Owen Sound and London, and anything else she needs during treatment and recovery.
It reads, “Coco has lifted so many of us with her songs and spirit. Now it’s time for us to lift her. Thank you for standing with her, for donating if you can, for sharing this story, and for sending your love, prayers, and positive energy her way.”
