Huron County council has approved additional funding for childcare in North Huron.
Council agreed to issue an additional $284,000 for childcare in Blyth.
A year ago, council had approved a start-up agreement with the Township of North Huron to develop 26 childcare spaces in Blyth, under the county’s Directed Growth Plan for Childcare.
That agreement provided $350,000 to support early construction costs.
In September of this year, another $300,000 was approved for the project, as further start-up funding was received. Since that time, North Huron has upgraded the number of childcare spaces to 44, thanks in part to additional support through the Ministry of Education’s Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) infrastructure funding.
Total costs for the construction of the project are estimated to be around $1.25 million.
