Provincial Police have shared more details about an investigation in Walkerton that led to an arrest Monday morning.
South Bruce OPP say they received a report just prior to 3 a.m. early yesterday morning about a snowmobile driving around Walkerton without lights on.
OPP officers set out on patrol and located a crashed snowmobile just north of Walkerton, in the area of Bruce Road 19 and Concession 2 NDR. Police allege the driver of the snowmobile fled the area on foot.
“From a distance, the responding officers saw the operator had fled on foot through a field,” says South Bruce OPP Const. Matthew Thorpe.
The OPP West Region Emergency Response Team and canine unit were called in to help locate the suspect. He was found shortly after 6 a.m. Monday and arrested, after what police describe as a “brief struggle.”
South Bruce OPP say that included the male suspect grabbed an officer’s holstered gun.
“Thankfully, it remained secure in the holster,” Thorpe adds.
A 40-year-old Huron-Kinloss man is charged with dangerous operation, disarming a peace officer, possession of a control substance and other offences. Police allege the man had suspected methamphetamine on him.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and then remanded into custody.
