Some nasty weather is expected in the Grey Bruce region today and tomorrow.
Environment Canada has issued snow squall and wind warnings for most of the region. Forecasters are calling for 5-10 cenimetres of snow today, and blowing snow with “near zero visibility at times late this morning and this afternoon.”
Flurries and squalls are expected to begin this morning. In all, 20 to 40 centimetres is possible over the next two days.
“An initial brief, intense snow squall is expected this morning along a cold front. A quick 5 cm of snow is expected from this snow squall as well as a rapid temperature drop, leading to icy surfaces,” the squall warning from Environment Canada says. “Lake effect snow squalls off Lake Huron will also develop this morning. Widespread blowing snow and blizzard conditions will be the primary concern.”
Strong winds are also expected today, prompting a wind warning. Gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour are possible this afternoon.
“Strong southwesterly winds are expected to develop this morning with the passage of a strong cold front. The winds will become northwesterly this afternoon. The winds will ease this evening. Areas with significant ice build-up from freezing rain will be most vulnerable,” Environment Canada says in its warning.
Tonight…flurries, squalls and blowing snow will continue. Environment Canada is calling for another 10 to 20 centimetres of snowfall.
And there’s more snow in the forecast for tomorrow (Tuesday), another 5 to 10 cenimetres could hit the ground.
