Seasons Retirement Communities in Owen Sound had its most successful fundraising initiative to date in support of the local food bank.
General Manager Polly Kirstine says the heartfelt initiative, which ran from Dec. 1 to the 14, brought in 282 pounds of food for OSHaRE.
“We all collected non-perishable food items for the food bank and we had a Christmas tree that was called our giving tree and that is where everybody placed the food items. We also collected hats, mitts, scarves, and socks, new and used,” says Kirstine. “Generally, there is not as much, but I think the way we did it with the tree this year made a big difference.”
The donations come as local food banks have seen a massive increase in the demand for their services this holiday season and Kirstine says she is proud to see the residents at Seasons step up.
“It’s amazing, it’s very heartfelt,” says Kirstine.
