Goderich Town Council received an update around the Rebuilding Downtown Construction Project.
Elizabeth McManus, who is the Construction Communications Liaison for the work, provided the update during Monday’s meeting.
She shared that overall, the beginning stages of the project went smoothly during the 2025 work season.
McManus said that she enjoyed the in-person meetings she had with businesses, residents, and other stakeholders.
She was part of the consultations and meetings that were held on a regular basis, to make sure that what concerned business owners and residents wanted was heard by the company.
An issue that came up in the consultations included signage, which led to the creation and implementation of signs on construction fencing to let people know which businesses could be accessed at the time.
The contractor, Lavis, was able to maintain the same crew members from Phase 1 to continue work in Phase 2, which helped to streamline that transition.
“We also collaborated with the BIA to install portable signs. they were located in three locations, at the entrances to town.”
The signs were helpful with wayfinding and access to certain areas.
Another issue that came up was accessibility.
“We’ve talked a lot about accessibility, and will work to ensure that the pedestrian routes are smooth and temporary ramps are installed at an accessible grade for every user.”
Discussions with Lavis, prove that the company is keen to get work on phases 3 and 4 underway next year.
