Proposed 39-unit affordable housing apartment proposed in Goderich.
Lease agreements have been approved by Huron County Council for county-owned housing properties, including for Gibbons Street units.
Council gave the green light for the county to enter into lease agreements for 10 assisted-living units at the Gibbons Street development.
The agreements for two units are with the Children’s Aid Society, while the other eight agreements are with the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Under a head lease agreement, the County would lease housing units directly to supportive agencies, which would then make the units available to their clients.
These agencies would provide case management and tenancy stabilization supports to help residents maintain successful tenancies.
The Housing Services Department continues to explore innovative strategies to address the ongoing challenges of securing affordable housing in Huron County, while providing supports to individuals and families experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
