The Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce is bringing back its Christmas Store to ensure gifts can be placed under the tree this holiday season.
Fund Development Coordinator Krystal Stukas says on Dec. 4, CMHA clients will be invited to pick up Christmas gifts at no cost for their loved ones.
“Clients get to shop from a wide variety of donated items and a team of CMHA elves welcome guests, help them select gifts and wrap everything so it is ready for the holidays. Ultimately we are trying to create a warm, supportive environment, filled with kindness, connection and holiday spirit,” says Stukas.
She adds many of CMHA’s clients face financial pressures, isolation or difficult circumstances which make holiday gifting challenging.
“The event restores a sense of pride and dignity by giving people the opportunity to choose something meaningful for someone they care about. It’s about people feeling valued, included and supported by their community,” says Stukas. “Typically over 100 clients attend each year and dozens of volunteers and staff help make the day feel super magical.”
The CMHA is looking for new unwrapped donations suitable for all ages, interests and genders including toys, books, warm clothing, personal care items, household essentials, and accessories. Gift wrap, gift bags and tape are also welcome.
Donations can be dropped off at the CMHA in Owen Sound Monday to Thursday between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by Nov. 27.
