A Meaford man is being fined for moose hunting violations.
Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources says the man pleaded guilty to using a boat to kill, injure or harass wildlife.
He was fined $5,500.
A Kitchener man was also fined $5,500 in the same case after pleading guilty to having a loaded firearm in a motorboat and discharging the firearm from the boat.
The Ontario Court of Justice heard that back on October 13th of last year, (2024) conservation officers were conducting a moose decoy operation on Lac des Mille Lacs, about 120 km west of Thunder Bay, to address ongoing issues with illegal hunting methods including moose being shot from motorboats.
Officers observed the Meaford man position the boat near the moose decoys and the Kitchener man shot at the decoys while the boat was underway. Both men were arrested by conservation officers.
