A large crowd gathered at the Owen Sound Cenotaph this morning to mark Remembrance Day.
The annual event began with a parade which included the the Owen Sound Army Cadets, Grey and Simcoe Foresters, local emergency service personnel and various dignitaries.
Local veterans, students and Army Cadets were also in attendance.
The ceremony included a minute of silence, 21-gun salute and the laying of wreaths representing various conflicts and organizations.
Veteran Colin Hodson, who served from 1957 to 1969 in the British Royal Navy and was the announcer for this morning’s event. “I was a serving member myself, so it was a day for me when I can look back on my life and the service and the people I served with,” says Hodson. “I did tours in the far east, Middle East, West Indies, and the Mediterranean.”

Hodson says it was wonderful to see all the support for this morning’s service.
“I have lived in this town since 1975 and it has always traditionally been great support and today, it’s just the same support. It’s wonderful to see this community on Remembrance Day,” says Hodson.
Several other Remembrance Day services were held across Grey Bruce today. Some local legions have gatherings this afternoon as well.
