A new battery energy storage system is being proposed for West Grey.
Council heard from Greg Rossetti from Aurora Renewables Inc. on the proposed 26 MW project during a meeting on Tuesday.
Rossetti says the proposed project aims to place the storage facility along Concession 6 in Ayton and include several battery containers.
The battery facility would reduce emissions, provide a consistent power supply, and bring revenue back to the community through host community agreements.
This project comes as the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is accepting project applications to meet future electricity needs.
“Knowing that the project is at its earliest of stages, and it is merely being proposed and if we are fortunate enough to be successful to be awarded a contract, then we would actually initiate the true development effort to go through all of the studies and come back in front of council after stakeholder engagement and feedback from the community,” says Rossetti.
The IESO will be awarding contracts for projects in June, 2026.
The next step in the proposed project is engaging and gaining support from West Grey.
