The City of Owen Sound is getting ready for the upcoming winter season.
The city is making sure that their snow removal team is ready to go, with plans to ensure that the snow clearing fleet is ready for operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
The fleet consists of four plow trucks, one loader, two graders, and four sidewalk plows.
City officials are also reminding everyone that on-street parking and parking in non-designated municipal lots is not allowed from December 1st until March 31st, between 1 am and 7 am to allow for snow removal.
Overnight parking passes are available at City Hall and the Transit Terminal for Municipal Lots 5 and 9.
Residents are reminded that when doing your own snow clearing on your property, it is illegal to push snow or ice onto roads, sidewalks, or across the street. The city is also giving a reminder to help staff keep fire hydrants clear of snow.
When putting out your garbage and recycling for collection, you’re asked to put your bins at the end of your driveway, and not in the snowbank.
It’s also important to keep children safe, and not allowing them to climb or play around snow banks or build forts and tunnels near roadways.
The City maintains 282 lane kilometres of roadways and 105 kilometres of sidewalks during the winter, and Owen Sound is noted as one of the top 10 municipalities in Ontario for annual snowfall, with an average of 330 centimetres per year.
