To mark the 25th anniversary of the Honouring Our Local Veterans program at the Billy Bishop Museum in Owen Sound, a special remembrance ceremony is taking place this Sunday.
The museum says over the past quarter century, it has honoured 219 veterans from the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, Peacekeeping Missions, Afghanistan, and
Canadians who served in the American Forces during the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.
The presentation of the 2025 Honourees will include 11 new inductees to the program.
Curator and Community Administrator at the Billy Bishop Home and Museum Morgan Woodhouse says, “Of the 11, we have a variety serving from the First World War all the way up to Afghanistan. I believe we have two who served in the Balkan Wars, so Bosnia and Croatia.”
The ceremony will gather veterans from all over Grey Bruce who have previously been included in the Honouring Our Local Veterans Program, veterans yet to be honoured, current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the community to celebrate the legacy of service in Grey and Bruce Counties.
All are invited to come and mark the occasion on Sunday, October 26th, at 11:30 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 6, Owen Sound.
Following a lunch generously provided by the Ladies Auxiliary, the ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m.
The museum adds, “If you or a family member have received an Honouring Our Local Veterans plaque, we ask that you please bring it with you, so that a group photo can be taken.”
