The first phase of a major water meter replacement project in Owen Sound is nearing completion.
City officials say installations are expected to wrap up by the end of this month.
A mass replacement of old meters inside homes has been ongoing in Owen Sound for several months. The city spent $3.6-million to have Neptune Technology Group install its new meters.
A statement from city hall warns people could notice changes in their water bills because the new meters provide “more precise measurements” of consumption.
“While residents may see an increase in their water bills due to the more accurate readings from the new meters, this improved precision empowers households to identify waste, detect leaks earlier, and make informed decisions that reduce water consumption—ultimately supporting environmental sustainability and conservation,” a release from the City of Owen Sound explains.
The city says the next phase of its water meter upgrades could include an online system which would allow users to view water consumption, in real time.
“More information regarding Phase 2 will be shared in the coming months,” a statement from City Hall says.
